True Love
We as believers are failing to grasp the true meaning of love. The divorce rate is rising, prejudice is still lingering, and the Church is rejecting new converts that might just look a little DIFFERENT. Something is just not right here. How have we allowed the divorce rate in the Church to surpass the world’s? Because we have failed to keep Jesus’ command to love.
John 15:12
“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you” (New King James Version)
Love is not some warm, fuzzy feeling that we have when everything is perfect. It is not vain words spoken to entice someone. Love is a choice that we have to make on a daily basis. We have to choose to love our spouse, our friends, our family, strangers, etc. If you have considered love to be merely a feeling, then you have missed its true meaning. We were never meant to live by our feelings or emotions, but by the Spirit of the Living God. Listen to the words of Paul as he describes love,
“Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.” I Corinthians 13:4-8
Love suffers long – meaning that trials will come but your endurance will sustain you. In other words, you might just have to love your spouse despite the flaws they have. Paul goes on to say that love Is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up – everything isn’t always about you, so your pride has got to go; Love does not behave rudely – I believe we all fail at this one from time to time. Love does not seek its own – God showed us His love by GIVING His one and only son (John 3:16). In return, we GIVE our lives to Him and show Him our love by keeping His commandments. Love is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity – Bear one another’s burdens and lift up your brother or sister in prayer when you see them fall. But love rejoices in the truth; BEARS ALL THINGS, BELIEVES ALL THINGS, HOPES ALL THINGS, ENDURES ALL THINGS. LOVE NEVER FAILS – What powerful and promising words written by Paul to close on the topic of love.
Why do believers always want the easy way out? Why not fight for something or work for something? We must lift the veil from our eyes and discover what true love is. To the broken home, there is always hope for a better future and you will make it through all of your trials if you choose to LOVE. To the struggling marriage, there is always hope in love. Love endures all things and bears all things and it will never fail, in Jesus name!!
I encourage everyone to examine yourself and make sure that the love you walk in is the real thing and not a Hollywood façade. |
